The Affordable Art Fair is back !

I love Art. I think Art reveals its time and tells us a lot about the artists’ culture, history, level of freedom when it comes to create. I heard of the Affordable Art Fair quite recently, but this year marks the seventeenth return of the Fair to Battersea Park. I spent my day there, willing to figure out what means “Contemporary Art” today.

World-famous masterpieces at the Courtauld Gallery

This must be my favorite place in London to admire paintings or drawings. The Courtauld Gallery is located at Somerset House and presents an amazing collection of world-famous masterpieces, stretching from the early Renaissance into the 20th century. The collection is “the result of a series of gifts and bequests by some of the leading collectors of the 19th and 20th centuries, including Samuel Courtauld”. I visit the gallery at least twice a year to enjoy this beautiful place and stunning collection. Let me show you my best discoveries at the Courtauld Gallery…

My top list of books for this summer

This comes as the best part of my packing for this summer: which books will I take with me to linger in a sun lounge? Hard to define first, as I like both romantic novels, historical biographies and gripping stories, and the choice is quite large on the bookshelves… But according to some editors, bookshops or reviews magazines, I have made my choice of some promising summer books, which I’ll share with you on this post.

An escape to Stratford-Upon-Avon

Stratford-Upon-Avon has always been very popular for tourism as it is the birthplace of William Shakespeare. And this year is particularly important and makes the place even more attractive as it is Shakespeare 400th anniversary of death, as I mentioned it in my last post. I went there lately, eager to know more about the town and the playwright. I saw this journey like a great opportunity to concentrate on Shakespeare’s work and legacy. And at the same time, I had to admit that Stratford-Upon-Avon is a town full of charm…

An escape to the Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is an area in south central England containing the Cotswold Hills. This is the place where you can enjoy nature, sheeps and this typical grey colour of the houses coming from the Jurassic Limestone. The area stretches roughly from Stratford-upon-avon in the North to Bath in the South and Oxford in the East. I love this part of England and I have spent already some week-ends there taking time to discover each village. Today, I will offer you an overlook of the eastern part of the Cotswolds, near Oxford.

An escape to Fountains Abbey

If you want to visit historic and romantic places in England, you’ll be very pleased with this destination. Fountains Abbey is said to be one of the largest and best-preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. This is also a place where nature offers a wonderful scene. The Abbey is located north of England, near Leeds, York and Lake District. It now belongs to the National Trust. There’s a lot of history there and I particularly enjoyed the walk in the magnificent gardens…

The Rolling Stones at the Saatchi Gallery

As I am a great fan of this iconic music group, I could not avoid this exhibition. I had some fear though, that according to its title, the exhibition would focus more on the media coverage of the group than on his creative process, which has made The Rolling Stones able to last over the last decades. But this exhibition depicts the group perfectly well and stresses in particular on the way they create and play which is so unique…
