Bisushima, the ultimate luxury Japanese experience in Trafalgar Square!

Bisushima Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London Blog

There are places you love because everything is of top-notch quality from the attention of the staff, the food experience, to the special atmosphere. I came across Bisushima while browsing the internet, looking for a rooftop in London near Trafalgar Square for a special night outing with my family. And it was such a perfect spot I came back for lunch with my husband to enjoy the restaurant in a different context!
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON invites you to Bisushima, an exquisite Japanese restaurant near Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden!

Bisushima, London luxury Japanese restaurant

Japanese food is one of my favourites. I love the flavours, the freshness of the food, the mix between raw and cooked ingredients, the aesthetic in the plate full of colours and harmony in the presentation… Everything looks like an invitation to explore new horizons!

We were warmly welcomed and walked past the long bar before settling at our table

Bisushima is located next to St Martin in the Fields, two steps away from Trafalgar Square. Ideal if you want to enjoy one of the many theatres, jazz clubs, or concerts nearby (we had a gospel concert booked at St Martin in the Fields on the evening we went to Bisushima, I’ll tell you more about it in a next post).

The benefit of the rooftop situation: the room is bright and allows us to see all the little details of the decoration…

The restaurant offers you “artful Japanese cooking with the finest ingredients sourced locally and from Japan, the outcome is harmonious to the palate”.

Such a perfect harmony: natural and minimalist design, some greenery and the London Eye in the distance…What else?

Bisushima is the combination of two elements: “Bisu represents the Egyptian god of hedonism and party. Shima is the Japanese word for island and sanctuary. Born from these two elements, the concept conveys the transformative journey that guests can relish from Shima (Day) to Bisu (Night)”.

Bisushima’s logo symbol is a Japanese Flycatcher “that is meant to represent freedom and paradise”

In our case, we experienced both atmospheres: we came for dinner the first time and had lunch the second time. The vibes are completely different but I could not tell which time I would recommend the most as they are both equally appealing.

The lovely terrace with a view of Nelson’s Column in the distance

When we first came on a busy Saturday evening, we missed the terrace as we were running out of time. The second visit allowed us to fully enjoy the view over Trafalgar Square and take in the sun in a very cosy place.

Rooftops are always ideal to settle down, relax and discover London from a new angle.

I loved the comfy seats, the neutral tones of the decorations, the peaceful area. I could have stayed there forever…

Such a great place for a summer evening, don’t you think? It is already in our minds that we’ll come back a third time to Bisushima, this time to sip a delicious cocktail with a few friends…

Relax and enjoy the view…

The terrace surrounds the restaurant at its two ends, allowing visitors to enjoy different views of London.

Quite a unique view of the London Eye, from London’s roofs…

In addition to overlooking Trafalgar Square, we could also admire London Eye in the distance.

Stunning cocktails at Bisushima

The night reveals all the lights and good vibes in the restaurant, and the bar especially is very attractive, don’t you think?

When we first went to Bisushima, it was the first family night out in a long time, so we kicked off the evening with a cocktail for me and a glass of whisky for Mr J. to celebrate.

This is the amazing Natsukashii cocktail: Pampero Blanco rum, Passion Fruit, Pineapple & Tonka

I was blown away by this cocktail! All the flavours came successively into the mouth, and it was pure heaven to enjoy a cocktail without having too many ice cubes that take away all the subtle mix of tastes (in my experience, the more the number of ice cubes in your cocktail, the less quality you’ll find).

In Mr J’s opinion, this was an exquisite whisky!

When we came back to Bisushima we could not resist another round of cocktails (and Mr J followed me this time!), still irresistible.

You will have recognized the Natsukashii cocktail I took the first time, and next to it is the Horonigai cocktail: Roku Gin, Sencha Tea, Yuzu juice & Raspberry puree. Divine!

The bartender is definitely one of the best in London as I rarely enjoyed my cocktails so much! Have a look at the cocktails menu (“virgin” versions -aka alcohol-free- are also available), you will see some very original mixes like the Hanafubuki (Hendrick’s Gin, Sakura, Raspberry, Rose, Eg White & LEC soda) or the Shibumi (Zacapa 23 Rum, Sherry Manzanilla, Coconut & Matcha)…

Refined Japanese cuisine a la carte

Bisushima’s ambience at night

With our kids, we made a selection of a few dishes from the a la carte menu, including sushi, makis and mains.

The dishes are all prepared in an open kitchen at the back of the restaurant if you wish to have a peep.

The truth is, the most difficult part is to choose from the menu as everything is unfairly tempting…

Traditional Maki Rolls: Kappa, with Cucumber. My daughter chose them and I have to say that Bisushima turned this simple-looking speciality into a very interesting dish!

Our son had the Yuan Chicken Risotto: Grilled corn-fed yuan marinated chicken, Japanese risotto & shiitake. We all had a go at it and found it incredibly good!

My husband chose the Sauteed Scallops: Scottish hand-dived scallops, seasonal greens & cauliflower puree. Such a delicate and excellent dish!

When I booked our lunch online, I saw a new addition: the Bento boxes and opted for them. They all come with a starter, pickles, rice & miso soup and are served with a glass of wine.

This steaming miso soup was excellent, and I loved the artisan-like little cup!

The starter (I would say spinach in a delicious salty sauce) was divine (including the crispy things at the top!)

You have three Bento Boxes to choose from, each one comprising a different main dish: the Bisushima Bento with chicken teriyaki, the Bisushima Sushi Bento with sushi, and the Vegan Bento with agedashi tofu.

I chose the Bisushima Sushi Bento: everything tasted delicious and the variety of items made it enjoyable!

These tempura vegetables were scrumptious. I am not usually a big fan of these, but they were lightly fried so I could still fully taste the vegetables.

The pickles. Not too acid, and crunchy and fresh. Perfect!

The Sushi Bento Box: a must-try!

My husband tried the Bisushima Bento with the chicken teriyaki and loved how well-cooked and flavoursome it was! In particular, the teriyaki sauce was light in texture but still strong in taste.

I love these comfy benches in the central alley, they create some intimacy for small groups.
