Gin lovers should absolutely go there! Bombay Sapphire is the world’s leading premium gin and its distillery is only one hour away from London.
It’s definitely worth the detour: an exciting experience, a delicious cocktail degustation, and a unique setting and architecture. What better way to enjoy a quick city break?
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON invites you to discover Bombay Sapphire Distillery in Hampshire!
Bombay Sapphire at Laverstoke Mill, Hampshire
I had offered my husband a gin distillery tour at Bombay Sapphire distillery as Valentine’s gift in February 2020… Of course, it got postponed a few times, until a couple of weeks ago when I finally booked a “discovery experience” from the distillery’s website.
We were extremely lucky with the weather and leaving London for the day felt like a little holiday 🙂
It took us one hour drive to reach Bombay Sapphire from West London. We particularly enjoyed the last part of the trip when we crossed little villages and marveled at the beautiful countryside. Once there, we were greeted by a guide who explained to us the content of the tour.
This “discovery experience” is one of the several tours organised at the Distillery. It lasts 1.5 hours and starts straight away with a visit to the Turbine Bar where you select a Bombay gin to make your own complimentary gin & tonic (I had completely forgotten this tiny detail and we had our G&T much sooner than I could have imagined!).
With our cocktails in hand, we then head to the cinema room to watch the movie presenting the history of Bombay Sapphire in preparation for our tour.
Bombay Sapphire Discovery Experience
We explored the Bombay Sapphire Distillery with our guide, who first explained to us the history behind these factories’ walls.
We were all very impressed by the iconic architecture of the greenhouses at Bombay Sapphire (an allusion to the stills needed to distill alcohol).
Inside the beautifully designed glasshouse, we had a great presentation of the ten exotic botanicals infused into every drop of Bombay Sapphire Gin.
We ended up our visit with an insight into Heatherwick Studios’ inspired design to smell, touch and understand the stages of gin production. We were also explained the rare vapour infusion distillation process which makes Bombay Sapphire gin so unique.
After the visit, you can go online and find the perfect gin cocktail recipes to enjoy at home.
We had an exquisite time at Bombay Sapphire and stayed a bit more to have lunch at their Café serving various plates of ham and cheese, but also jacket potatoes and a few more light meals.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and found inspiration here. If you are about to book a discovery tour or other experiences at Bombay Sapphire Distillery soon, please share your experience and opinion on DOYOUSPEAKLONDON’s blog!

Très belle architecture de verre et de métal dont les formes arrondies adoucissent la magnifique austérité des bâtiments industriels.
