Over the years, Halloween has become a not-to-be-missed celebration for my kids (which I happily adhere to). We boo-tifully decorate our home, find ideas for spook-tacular makeups, carve huge pumpkins (and drinking orange soups), and get out at dusk to trick or treat.
This year, we even added a wonderful treat to our Halloween routine and headed to Covent Garden to enjoy a gourd-geous (sorry can’t resist) afternoon tea…
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON presents you the perfect Halloween Afternoon Tea at Mariage Frères AND breaks the news about their forthcoming Christmas Afternoon Tea!
Mariage Frères, Covent Garden
On this blog, I have presented Mariage Frères as one of the best tea brands to purchase outstanding teas from all over the world.
Located in the heart of London in Covent Garden, Mariage Frères offers a wide range of luxury teas, which you are served with precise gestures and impeccable service, in a stunning interior.
But teas are not the only treat you can find at Mariage Freres…
Mariage Frères created the terms ‘French Art of Tea’ and ‘Cuisine au Thé’ which brought French elegance and taste into the world of Tea. We are always looking for the latest trends and ingredients in order to create an international menu with a French touch added to it”, Romain Eppstein, Project Manager at Mariage Frères
The “Cuisine au Thé” is Mariage Frères’ renowned signature and all pastries and dishes are infused with tea. You can choose from an assortments of pastries and eat them inside on the upper floor (which allows you a sneak peek of the gorgeous “Tea emporium”), or outside on the (heated) terrace.
Of course, Mariage Frères also provides different breakfast and lunch options full of originality and elegance!
Halloween Afternoon Tea
We’ve had different set menus for Halloween in the past and wanted to try something different this time”
This is how their Afternoon Tea was turned into a Halloween experience this year with a limited-edition Halloween Afternoon Tea available in their flagship store, from 25th-31st October, at an amazing price (£35pp)!
We started our special afternoon tea with some cocktails to die for. We had never tried such an original mix of alcohols and infused teas before!
I chose my cocktail for its summery colours (aren’t cocktails supposed to lift your spirits?). My husband was more thoughtful: he made his choice according to his interest in whisky. Despite the different methods, we were both really impressed by the aspect and complementary flavours of these cocktails!
To go with these delicious drinks, what can beat a new afternoon tea experience, featuring bewitched pastries and sandwiches?
The Chicken Ballotine with pumpkin, ginger and polenta and infused with Full Moon Party® green tea was the cutest of all. Everything was melting perfectly well in the mouth!
We were so delighted to try the spooky Black Bao Burger filled with beef tataki and coleslaw infused with Chaï Parisen® tea: each bite was unique as the flavours exploded one by one in the mouth…
The orange mushroom sandwich, cashew hummus infused with Pleine Lune® tea was amazing too, with its petals on top (very tasty actually), the perfectly well-cooked vegetables inside and the smooth texture of the bread…
Scones lovers won’t be disappointed by these traditional pastries, served with the most delightful “Gelées extra de Thé” and butter.
Regarding the desserts, where shall I start? So many different textures and flavours in each piece… The pumpkin and orange cheesecake with its green tea biscuit reminded me of Yayoi Kusama’s artworks and the amazing Afternoon Tea I enjoyed at Rosewood London a few weeks ago.
This little piece was so gorgeous-looking, colourful and tasty at the same time!
The black macaron filled with chocolate ganache infused with Midnight Magic® red tea and a gianduja gooey centre was my favourite! The crispy shell of the macaroon combined with the melting filling was absolutely divine!
The one my kids prefered was this spooky-and-adorable-at-the-same-time Fantome de L’Opera yuzu sponge cake coated in Italian meringue. Deliciously sweet and melting!
Brunch at Mariage Frères
For those not really fans of Afternoon tea and more keen on trying other specialities, Mariage Frères offers brunch and lunch menus equally tempting.
Our son ordered Le Classique menu with Homemade Fresh Orange Juice, Toasted Brioche (which he devoured in no time), Scrambled Eggs, artisan marinated smoked salmon and shrimps, Japanese Matcha green tea fromage frais, herbs with pomegranate glaze. A hearty meal, with an original (French) touch.
Last but not least, the Halloween inspired cake was particularly eye-catching and our son found some space to eat it up.
Our daughter tried out the Caprice du Gouverneur from the lunch menu, including “Croque-Monsieur Mariage” with artisan smoked salmon, mesclun with Thé sur le Nil® tea, sweet potato crisps and almonds. Everything was absolutely scrumptious and well-presented in a beautiful box. A wonderful choice!
Themed Afternoon Teas at Mariage Frères
After the success of their Halloween Afternoon Tea, Mariage Frères is planning to offer seasonal afternoon teas. The next one on the list is the Christmas Afternoon Tea, to be launched on 22 November 2021!
Will you resist such a treat? No need to mention the really good value for money, especially knowing that the Tea Salon is only a few steps away from the festive Covent Garden Piazza.
I think the only problem will be … to book a table early enough not to miss it!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and found inspiration here. If you are about to visit Mariage Frères soon, please share your experience and opinion on DOYOUSPEAKLONDON’s blog!
