While Halloween is often seen as an American tradition, London has its own amazing ways to celebrate with spooky decorations and pumpkin patches! Over the years, I’ve discovered plenty of ways to embrace the Halloween spirit here in the city.
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON is sharing some tips on how to make the most of Halloween in London!
Top spots in London for haunted houses and trick-or-treating
London is home to many areas where Halloween is celebrated with real enthusiasm. I especially love wandering through Notting Hill (the streets around Ladbroke Grove are always worth exploring – see pictures above) and Kensington (you might discover some spooky surprises in the streets around Holland Park – see pictures below).
Two other areas in London where I love hunting for Halloween-decorated houses are Chelsea (take a stroll along Walton Street in the north and King’s Road in the south – you might just come across some spooky houses and buildings) and St John’s Wood, known for having a significant American expat community.
These areas are absolutely perfect for trick-or-treating on Halloween! You’ll find lots of houses ready to greet little ghosts and goblins for a night filled with treats and scary surprises!
Halloween-themed afternoon teas
Another fun way to celebrate Halloween is by enjoying a Halloween-themed afternoon tea! It’s a great mix of festive vibes and the classic British tradition, with a spooky twist on your favourite treats and pastries. Absolutely perfect to enjoy the season!
A few years back, I tried the Halloween-themed afternoon tea at Marriage Frères Tea Room in Covent Garden, and it was absolutely stunning! Not only did it look fantastic, but it also tasted incredible. It was such a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit! See my full review here.
I’ve heard there are some other fantastic spots offering spook-tacular Halloween afternoon teas, like the Royal Lancaster near Hyde Park and the Roast at Borough Market. You can even join the Hamleys Halloween Afternoon Tea Bus Tour aboard the B Bus! If you’re in the mood to celebrate, there are plenty of fun options to choose from! (full details at the end of this post).
Best pumpkins patches near London
This is definitely one of the best activities for kids when Halloween rolls around! I have to admit, I had never experienced it before moving to London.
A pumpkin patch is basically a farm in the countryside that’s filled with tons of pumpkins in October. It’s the perfect spot for families to hunt for their ideal pumpkins, whether they’re planning to cook with them or carve them up for decorations at home.
Over the years, the attractions at these farms have really evolved. You’ll find loads of spooky decorations and Halloween setups, and the scarier, the better – it’s all about having fun!
We visited Cammas Hall Farm two years ago and had such a blast there! See the full review here. And our kids are already asking to go back pumpkin patching this year!
I’ve noticed a few other farms around London that are famous for their pumpkin patches, like the Pop Up Farm in Hertfordshire, Tulleys Pumpkin Farm in Sussex, and Secretts Farm in Surrey. There are so many options to choose from, and with the pumpkin patch craze going strong, there are new spots popping up every year! (full details below).
