I absolutely love Soho for its energy! This iconic area in London is home to some of the best theatres, cinemas, and jazz clubs in London. Every street is alive with joyful sounds and positive vibes – whatever the season!
But this week is extra special! The Piano Bar and Alfie’s Jazz Clubs are turning up the heat with salsa music celebrations as part of the Soho Live Music Club.
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON invites you to dive into the passionate rhythms and electrifying energy of Latin music!
Iconic Jazz Clubs in Soho
The Piano Bar
I spent a few evenings in this charming jazz club that feels like home. They are referred to as “A private cocktail lounge with spectacular live music in Soho”.
As I mentioned earlier in this blog, I’m a huge fan of this venue. The intimate atmosphere really draws me in – thanks to the unique charm of the space, a house that’s been thoughtfully transformed into a jazz club.
The venue is made up of several rooms, each offering its own charm, with the main space featuring incredible jazz bands. With its outstanding performances, this is the perfect spot for a memorable night out – whether you’re with friends or enjoying a romantic evening.
Alfie’s Jazz Club
Alfie’s is part of the Soho Live Music Club, along with The Piano Bar. You can get a membership, enjoy live music, catch special events every week, and sip on some amazing cocktails – all in one spot!
Alfie’s loft, which was once a creative space for sixties costume design, captures the lively spirit of Soho’s swinging sixties, made famous in Michael Caine’s classic film ‘Alfie.’ In addition to jazz, the venue hosts year-round art exhibitions, with the current showcase featuring the works of David Ferry.
Latin Fiesta Week in Soho!
This week is the perfect opportunity to dive into the vibrant world of Latin jazz. It’s been inspired by the legendary sounds of the Buena Vista Social Club, a group I’ve come to know well thanks to the iconic 1999 documentary film. In short: Afro-Cuban rhythms meet the bold brass and lively percussion of salsa!
With performances ranging from Pablo Barrios’ incredible piano skills to the innovative rhythms of the NYJO Latin Collective, this event is far more than a festival – it’s a soulful celebration of Latin music and culture!
Pablo Barrios and Trio
I had the chance to see Pablo Barrios and his trio in action – and wow, what a show! With his vibrant energy and knack for connecting with the audience, this young Venezuelan-born pianist and composer, who leads the NYJO Latin Collective, is making waves on the UK jazz scene.
His one-of-a-kind fusion of Latin jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms, combined with his infectious energy, truly makes him a must-see! I was especially blown away by his incredible take on Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ – it was absolutely mind-blowing!
There are also other talented musicians and performers, like Natalie Oliveri, the Sambroso All Stars, Jansen Santana, who you can discover here.
I’m totally hooked on the jazz events in Soho. There’s just something about the vibe that makes the whole area feel alive. Latin Fiesta Week is the perfect chance to discover new music (if you are not familiar with it), get into the groove, and soak up all the positive energy.
It’s the ideal way to shake off those winter blues and enjoy a fun, lively atmosphere. If you’re looking for something to brighten your week, this is it! But hurry – the Latin Fiesta Week ends on 25th January!
