For my daughter’s birthday, I bought some little treats from Maitre Choux, in South Kensington. Not that she asked for it -it was a surprise- but because I was eager to discover this special French patisserie I had heard about for so long.
Choux pastry is a delicate pastry dough used in many french pastries, like éclairs, choux, and chouquettes: a world of sweetness in which Maitre Choux excels…
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON presents you “the first and only choux pastry patisserie specialist in the world”!
Maitre Choux, London
I like the beginnings of lovely stories… Maitre Choux was created in 2015 by Jeremie Vaislic and Marina Nadirova.
They wished to recreate a Michelin-starred experience into a daily experience for everyone.
Maitre Choux opened their very first shop in South Kensington, then extended to Soho and Chelsea, and they also have a kiosk in Bicester Village.
Maitre Choux, French Patisserie
Maitre Choux has partnered up with a three Michelin star-experienced Chef to cater to the most exquisite of taste buds.
Maitre Choux exquisite éclairs
I chose 4 different éclairs: two with chocolate, two with fruity flavours.
Maitre Choux told me they use the freshest ingredients available. I tend to believe it as each piece was highly flavoursome and each bite a delish.
I have to precise that my last memory of an éclair back in France was not very pleasant. I prefer to say it as maybe some of you have had the same experience and would not give it a second go.
I really appreciated the dark chocolate one. Not too strong, not too sweet, just perfect. The texture was delicious too: melting in the mouth. I had the memory of some compact filling whose association with the external choux was not ideal, they felt like two separated elements of the same pastry. On the contrary here, the exterior of the eclair marries perfectly well with its inside and all flavours are mixing finely.
I think my favourite éclair remains the Pistachio one… Because I love pistachios in desserts, and because the combination with the nuts and little meringues on the top is fabulous! I love it when you can find different flavours in the same dessert, each of them revealing itself at different stages of the tasting.
It’s up to you to make your own opinion (Maitre Choux’s offer is larger than my own selection so feel free to check out their website)!
Christmas 2021 at Maitre Choux
This year for the very first time, Maitre Choux is releasing a Yule Log! Camille Hommez, Marketing Manager at Maitre Choux
Just to make you salivate, here is the description of this log: a hazelnut praline mousse with a gianduja ganache, a vanilla cream with unique vanilla pods from Bora-Bora, a hazelnut financier and crunchy dark chocolate gavotte base, covered with a hazelnut and milk chocolate glaze brushed with gold dust.
It is recommended for 6/7 persons and suitable for vegetarian too! It will be available from December 7th until the 31rst.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and found inspiration here. If you are about to visit Maitre Choux soon, please share your experience and opinion on DOYOUSPEAKLONDON’s blog!
